A tender, savory beef and broccoli dish made in a slow cooker with a sticky, sweet-savory sauce. By searing the beef and adding broccoli late, this recipe achieves a takeout-quality texture without the grease.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs flank steak or sirloin, sliced against the grain into thin strips
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 3–4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (for marinade)
  • 1/4 cup water or beef broth
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (for slurry)
  • 2 tablespoons cold water (for slurry)
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine sliced beef with soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and 1 teaspoon cornstarch. Toss to coat and let sit while prepping vegetables.
  2. Pour the marinated beef and any remaining marinade into the slow cooker. Add the water or beef broth and stir gently.
  3. Cover and cook on LOW for 4 to 5 hours until the beef is tender.
  4. Add the broccoli florets to the slow cooker. Cover and cook on HIGH for the last 30 minutes until broccoli is crisp-tender.
  5. In a small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 2 tablespoons cold water to create a slurry. Stir this into the slow cooker.
  6. Cover and cook on HIGH for another 10-15 minutes until the sauce thickens into a glossy coating.
  7. Turn off the slow cooker. Stir in sesame oil and red pepper flakes. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  8. Serve immediately over steamed white rice or cauliflower rice, garnished with sesame seeds.

Notes

Slice beef against the grain for tenderness. Do not add broccoli at the beginning or it will become mushy. Use toasted sesame oil for best flavor. If using frozen broccoli, thaw and drain thoroughly to avoid watery sauce.
