Easy 3-ingredient style pulled pork sliders that are melt-in-your-mouth tender, smoky, and sweet. Perfect for busy weeknights or parties with minimal active prep time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 to 4 lbs Pork Shoulder (Boston Butt), bone-in or boneless
  • 2 large Yellow Onions, sliced thinly
  • 1 to 1.5 cups Barbecue Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
  • 12 to 15 Slider Buns (Hawaiian sweet rolls or Kaiser rolls)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter, melted
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat slow cooker to low heat.
  2. Trim large chunks of fat from the pork shoulder, leaving some for flavor. Cut pork into 2-3 large chunks to fit in the slow cooker.
  3. Slice onions thinly and spread them on the bottom of the slow cooker to create a bed for the pork.
  4. Sprinkle garlic powder and smoked paprika over the onions.
  5. Place pork chunks on top of the onions. Season the top of the pork with salt and pepper.
  6. Pour barbecue sauce over the pork, ensuring it is coated evenly.
  7. Add apple cider vinegar and brown sugar. Stir gently to combine sauce ingredients.
  8. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours, until meat is fork-tender.
  9. Remove pork from slow cooker and let rest for a few minutes. Discard bones if used.
  10. Shred the meat using two forks or gloved hands, mixing it with the juices in the slow cooker.
  11. Slice slider buns in half horizontally.
  12. Brush cut sides of buns with melted butter.
  13. Place buns cut-side up on a baking sheet and broil for 1-2 minutes until golden and toasted. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  14. Assemble sliders by spooning generous amounts of shredded pork onto the bottom half of each bun and topping with the other half.
  15. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

[‘Do not use too much sauce; the pork releases its own juices. Start with 1 cup and add more if needed.’, ‘Low and slow cooking yields the best texture; high heat can make pork tough.’, ‘When shredding, avoid over-processing with a mixer to maintain texture.’, ‘Add a bay leaf during cooking for extra flavor, removing it before shredding.’, ‘Store meat and sauce separately if making ahead. Reheat with a splash of water or broth.’, ‘For a spicy version, add diced jalapeños or cayenne pepper.’, ‘For a tangier twist, substitute half the BBQ sauce with apple cider vinegar and Dijon mustard.’]
